What is Facebook Pixel?

What is a Facebook Pixel in really simple terms?

In simple terms, a pixel is a piece of code (supplied by Facebook) which you put into the back-end of your website and once you have done this, this forms a corridor between your website and Facebook for information to be passed.

Why is this information ‘corridor’ important?

Firstly, it allows you to retarget people who have been on your website (even on specific pages of your website) with ads. This is extremely powerful and is a brilliant way of getting a ‘second chance’ to convert those who come to your website and then leave without taking action.

Secondly, it feeds Facebook with the data it needs for Machine Learning. Every single person who visits your website, and who has a FB/IG profile, Facebook knows who they are, how long they spent on your site, which pages they looked at. As your traffic builds, and more data is fed to Facebook, Facebook starts getting a clearer picture of what your profile of customer looks like using it’s sophisticated algorithms and data banks. It then uses this information to show your ads to more people who fit that profile.
