How is the data Facebook holds on its users so powerful to you as an advertiser?

What does Facebook Know About You?!

If you’ve seen Social Dilemma you may already have an inclination as to what this section will tell you, but for those of you who have already been on my  classroom courses you’ll know that we were having discussions about this two years ago, long before everyone watched Social Dilemma!

  • Basic Info  – this is what you have provided them with yourself – name, date of birth, email address, country of residence, relationship status etc.

  • The websites you visit  – as you surf the internet, every website that you visit where a Pixel is installed (that’s pretty much every website bar a few small businesses who don’t know how to install one) that data is fed back to Facebook via the Pixel. If you’ve been looking for new a new bed, a holiday, or think you might need to get a pension – Facebook knows!

  • Your on-site activity  – which groups and pages you engage with, the people you talk to, the types of content that instigate a response from you…

  • Your contact data  – think it only knows the email address that you have provided to them? Think again….

  • Where you are…. at all times…  – your phone 4G acts as a constant tracking device, wherever you are in the world Facebook knows! This is supported by Check-In data, and the IP addresses where you connect to WiFi! If you’re connected on the WiFi at one IP address every evening, and another every day 9am -5pm, it knows where is “home” and where is “work”

  • The Apps you’ve downloaded…  often on Apps, when you can’t be bothered to create an account, you’ll login with Google or Facebook to make it quicker and easier and that’s providing access to your in-App activity.
