Are there times when it’s okay to Boost?

Should you EVER Boost a post?!

There are times when it IS okay to Boost a post – although these occasions are few and far between.

  1. You are spending a TINY amount on the campaign
  2. You want to get cheap and relatively meaningless engagement for ‘social proof’ with the intention of moving that Post into a different type of campaign later

Tiny Budgets

If you are spending a fiver on a campaign you may as well Boost it – firstly it isn’t worth your time to spend 10-15-20 minutes setting up a ‘proper’ campaign for a fiver, it’ll cost you more in loss of earnings and the value of your time than you’re going to lose from the inefficiency of the ad.

However we do strongly advise against really tiny budget campaigns – if you’re going to do ads, do it properly and give it a fair crack of the whip spending at least £20-30. Otherwise you’ll never really know if it’s working or not.

You just want social proof

Sometimes we will stick a tenner on a Boosted post, purely for the purposes of getting several likes and 1-2 comments on it so that it doesn’t look like it’s had zero interest when we migrate it into a ‘real’ advert.

When you see a Facebook Ad that you are possibly interested in, but there’s zero likes and zero comments – what does it make you think? It probably makes you think that they have no customers, that nobody else is interested in it. It makes you dubious. So therefore having even just a handful of engagements on the ad can be useful in the ‘first phase’ of a campaign.

If you do this, remember that you cannot edit the ad after you’ve paid to Boost it, so make sure it’s exactly how you want it to read/look when you eventually migrate it into a proper campaign!
